Collection: Hasui Kawase

Hasui Kawase (1883-1957) was a Japanese artist and master of woodblock printing, known primarily for his works in the Shin-hanga style, which combined traditional Japanese techniques with a modern approach to themes and composition.

Kawase has gained recognition for his dynamic compositions and subtle play of light and shadow in his works. His works often depict not only landscapes but also everyday life, nature, and the changing of the seasons, which I reflected in his ability to capture momentary moods.

The artist created many classic woodcuts that contributed to the wider revival of woodcut art in the 20th century. Today, his works are valued both in Japan and abroad, and many are in prestigious museum collections around the world.
